SPORTING CLAY

Shooting Sport Facilities

If you want to hone your skills on a more challenging game, try Sporting Clays. Sporting Clays has 12 stations with different target presentations at each. You might see a crossing dove, flaring geese, flushing quail, or even a bouncing bunny simulated on the course. Sporting Clays has been called “Golf with a Shotgun” and many use it in the same way, as a leisure hobby, to entertain clients and for a fundraiser. Because the sporting clay course can accommodate many shooters at the same time it is great for large groups and can be shot in one to three hours depending on the number of shooters and the number of targets being shot. There is a 12 station course open daily at Blackwood Gun Club and up to 24 stations that are available for everyone to use. 5-Stand is a compact sporting game and can be shot on one of the skeet fields as well for up to 5 shooters at a time and offers a variety of targets quicker than a round sporting clays. 5-stand is used for leagues and events only.

To shoot any of the clay games at Blackwood Gun Club one needs eye and hearing protection, a shotgun, target ammo 7.5, 8 or 9s and some safety instruction in order to get started. When reserved in advance, there are shooting instructors that can help get you started shooting if you’ve never shot clays or don’t own your own gun. Rental Shotguns are available as well. The sporting clay course can be shot with groups of two to five.

Course Hours:
Monday – Sunday: 9am to 6pm

Pricing:
Full Round – 100 targets: $49.00
Half Round – 50 targets: $27.50
Golf Cart Rental – 4 person: $25.00

5-Stand Information

Available for special occasions and events ONLY. For those who are lacking the time required (or even money) for a full round of sporting clays, there is 5 Stand. A fast paced and action packed shooting sport, 5 Stand is sometimes referred to as mini sporting clays. Unlike Skeet and Trap, 5 Stand has a wide variety of targets thrown. With between 6 and 8 throwers, you will see everything from sliding, crossing & falling patterns of clays.

There are five shooting stands (hence the name) placed around the field. Each shooter will start in a separate stand and after each round, move to the next stand until each station has been shot. Each shooter will see 25 clays and the person who breaks the most, wins!

No reservation is needed. However, we suggest that you check our event calendar or give us a call before planning your next trip to Blackwood & verify that no shoots are scheduled for that day.
Phone: 936-441-4040

What kind of shot shell can be used on the field?

We require that all shells be at least 71/2 shot or smaller.

Can I bring my own golf cart?

Yes! We have parking for vehicles with trailers on the east end of the property.

Will I be able to shoot by myself, or do I need a ``puller?``

Here at Blackwood, we recently automated our Sporting Clay Fields. You can now shoot Sporting Clays by yourself. Simply set your preferred delay on the control box and get ready. Skeet & Trap now have a voice operated remote that can be clipped on a belt or pocket making it possible to shoot alone.

TESTIMONIALS

What people say about us

Great place to shoot. Reasonably priced, friendly service and the Range Safety Officer (RSO) was fantastic. Not only did he do a great job of ensuring we all shot safely but he offered VERY helpful tips and added a very much appreciated bit of "expert advice" to my sighting in process.

Blackwood is my favorite range in the area. Their pricing is fair and their facilities are great. Their staff is very friendly and helpful as well. One of my favorite aspects of this range are the lanes. It is outdoor, of course, and the range terrain dips down and back up, so you can set targets at 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards from a single lane and clearly see all 4 targets. I love being able to shoot multiple guns at different distances from just one lane without having to change targets in between. Strongly recommend this range.
